Please see below for information regarding an early admission discount.
For students who wish to stay for both sessions, our program is specially designed so that each session has its own unique themes and activities.
Each session will significantly improve your fluency, as well as your listening and writing ability, and will better prepare you for school next year. Both sessions will immerse students even more than most trips abroad – English is not spoken at the academy, while often on trips, tour guides will speak in English to accommodate less fluent students.
Are you worried about not being able to speak as well as you would like? Our dedicated and talented mentors are there to help you every step of the way.
10-day immersion: The amount of time you spend at the Martí Spanish Academy 10-day session is the equivalent in time to one year in class at school. Unlike school, however, our emphasis is mostly on conversation: Gaining more confidence and fluency through interactive discussions about history and culture and fun, dynamic hands-on activities. The 10-day immersion is long enough for an intensive immersion experience, yet short enough to fit in with other summer plans.
20-day immersion: Double the amount of time of a regular session! Dramatically improve conversation skills, as well as reading, writing, and listening. The 20-day immersion experience is especially beneficial for those continuing with Spanish in college, planning to study abroad, or who will speak Spanish as part of their careers. This session will give you the jump start toward long-term fluency. By the time you leave, speaking in Spanish will be second nature.
Martí Spanish Academy is held at a Retreat Center in Lynchburg, Virginia. It is surrounded by deep woods that border the beautiful Blackwater Creek Natural Area, featuring a six mile creekside trail, excellent for hiking.
It is about an hour and fifteen minutes from both Roanoke and Charlottesville and two hours from Richmond.

When should I apply?
There are two types of admissions—early and regular.
Candidates who meet the selection criteria will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Space is limited, therefore, we highly recommend that you apply early. Filling out an application does not guarantee acceptance into the academy.
Early admission applications (including your official high school transcript and teacher recommendation) must be postmarked by December 15, 2009. Candidates will be notified of their acceptance no later than December 30, 2009.
Candidates who apply for early admission, are accepted, and send in their non-refundable deposit of $400 (for 10 days) or $800 (for 20 days) by January 15, 2010, will receive a $100 discount off their final payment.
Regular admission applications (including your official high school transcript and teacher recommendation) must be postmarked by February 15, 2010. Candidates will be notified of their acceptance no later than March 1, 2010.
Late applications are those postmarked after February 15, 2010. If the candidate is accepted and decides to attend, there is a late charge of $100 added to the normal tuition.
Please be advised that if you are accepted to the academy, we can only guarantee
your spot when we receive your deposit.
