You will love your time at Martí Spanish Academy!  Activities include interactive discussions about history and culture, hands-on art projects, cooking typical Hispanic cuisine, watching foreign movies at night, learning traditional Latin dances, writing and acting in skits, playing authentic Spanish games, and much more!

Since the academy is held at a secluded retreat house surrounded by woods, you can also hike and enjoy the serenity of nature.

A typical day

Imagine waking up to Spanish music…

...You begin the day playing a typical sport on our spacious athletic fields or doing some morning exercise (something everyone can participate in) — and learning the terminology of that sport or exercise. 

...After breakfast, you attend class where you work on specific tasks aimed directly at improving your overall skills in Spanish. Daily class time is focused on honing highly complex grammar and building on vocabulary you know already, as well as using new words and coupling those concepts with the culture of the country we are studying. For example, one day’s lesson might focus on the present subjunctive. Additionally you might learn about the history of piracy in Puerto Rico, the vocabulary of the pirate ship, discuss the difference between a pirate and a corsair, and reinforce everything you have learned by using the grammar (the present subjunctive), vocabulary, and historical knowledge to create a skit in which you and your skit mates act out a historical scene, a legend, or a humorous fantasy.

...Afterwards, you have leisure time to go for a hike in the surrounding woods, relax with your friends, or play a typical Spanish game.

...At night, you and your compañeros fix a flavorful and authentic dinner. 

...Tonight you will hear ghost stories around the campfire, or perhaps learn how to salsa, or watch a popular Spanish movie.

And remember:  Full immersion means that every moment is spent speaking Spanish, whether you are discussing history or current events, learning a dance, or just preparing dinner.
